Compliments! Just a question about a small detail: shouldn’t the sageo be attached to the hakama?

  2. mascho9 says:

The sageo is attached to a hakama or belt of any sort, its mearly there to keep the saya from falling out.

  3. Peekingduck says:

    Who is your teacher ?
    Hatakeyama, Sugawara ?

  4. vysokij says:

    Nagase

  5. kaifinn says:

In the katori ryu, the sageo is to remain lose. because in this old style you must be able to use youre sageo for tying. ore other utilities

I am not familiar with this kata, so please bear with me if at mark 6:45 I wonder what rotating movement that is for.

  7. irwan0168 says:

cool, but the rotating movement its a little bit too much..maybe..i am not familiar with TSKSR, by the way 6.45 its for blocking arrow.

  8. irwan0168 says:

how about more secret techniques from standing positions and kumitachi please?

  9. Schwertfechter says:

That is what I was told when the kata at 6.45 was demonstrated to me a few years ago, that it was arrow avoidance.

As for the spin at 3.47, I was told it is simply to give yourself some distance after that diagonal cut following the tsuki, so it will be easier to execute the kirioroshi (as we in MJER call it). The cut extends all the way back so the body spin puts you in position for the final blow.

Ah, it’s nice to see some iaijutsu at speed. Maybe I haven’t looked around enough, but it seemed like a lot of videos were showing good technique at a slow speed.

Very impressive stuff. Good reigi, too.

Why is this “Jinmukai Iaijutsu” performing the EXACT katas of Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu Iaijutsu? On top of that, they don’t even acknowledge this fact on their website… That’s a fraud and if this was the “old days”, it would have been punishable by death.

  12. kempobrad says:

i’ve been told iaido is slower than iaijutsu…as it is the actual combat art.

  13. kempobrad says:

because they do not practice one certain style (ryu-ha) nor do they give rank in any particular style. kai is the organization, not a style.

  14. Tomosan2888 says:

Hmmm I’ve seen a few of these ‘Jinmukai’ Videos now. And to be honest it seems to be an almost carbon copy of Tenshinsho-Den Katori Shinto Ryu. If this was book it would be called plagiarism.

That aside the skills of the Swordsman in this video impressed me quite a lot…Apart from 3.46 lol

This man is howard hues (his last name I think is misspelled), and he was a student of nagase and sugawara sensei, who does have a menkyo in Katori Shinto ryu bujutsu, but is not authorized to teach, though he taught anyway. This is Katori though illegitamately taught.

  16. daikeli says:

basically, this man nor any of his students including vysokij are permitted, licennsed, or authorized in anyway to demo Katori Shinto ryu, nor practice, nor teach. And it is unlikely Otake Sensei is a friend of vysokij’s sensei. There is only one authorized shidosha or teacher by Otake Sensei in the US and he is in Washington state. If you are not part of Otake’s group you are not a legitimate practitioner

  17. hjallgir says:

    What about Sugino-ha practitioners?

  18. nii87 says:

That is a subject of endless debate and flame wars.

  19. nii87 says:

By chuden do you mean gokui kata? Only two were shown, and if I recall, the only iai kata of gokui level that are on youtube (performed by Sugino-sensei and Otake-sensei) are those two. Goes to show where they got this kata from =P

  20. FredDude27 says:

Yup! Daikeli is 100% correct. Not approved by Otake & Soke of TSKSR you are not in the ryu.

But just as an addition: There are people who started out in Sugino-ha but later left the organisation and got permission to enter the main tradition under Otake Ritsuke. These people had to leave behind their Sugino-ha ranking/licenses and start anew. I believe that one of the official TSKSR guys in Holland started out as Sugino-ha.

  21. sonsurion says:

    Daikeli, my compliments.

This is Sensei High, who in his capacity as Intn’l Director for Japan Karate-Do Ryobu-Kai was taught by Nagase Sensei while he was the Japanese Consulate-who was permitted by TSKS-R in a limited way- so as to “foster interest and learning of the Japanese culture, philosophy, and martial arts.”though allowed to teach it, you are quite right Daikeli, Jinmukan is not part of the TSKSR nor allowed to change the kata in any way.Their affiliation remains informal but amiable.

  22. sonsurion says:

Oh, yes and before i forget, Jinmukan takes part in an annual Event in Kansas City with the Ryobu-Kai as well as the TSKSR, who sends representatives to do demonstrations and make sure the school is being properly taught.

If you’re in the area you should check it out- it’s always interesting to see. It’s coming up soon i think.

  23. LetumZen says:

    Sorry, but what about 3.46?

  24. msalazarx says:

ita a kata called kusa nage no ken

  25. midwestterror says:

This is some fine iai. Sensei High, I live in Kansas City and was trying to find the school in Overland Park about a year ago… does it no longer exist?
